A fun filled Saturday

We started out a fun Saturday with The History Museum and Kidsfirst Digs! They put on a great family friendly program. Crafts, info, and a real dig site across the street!

Then our next stop was Comic Con at the Mishawaka Public Library! There were tons of fun events all day long, and people were encouraged to come in costume. My kids picked Ash and Misty from Pokemon. During the week I was able to make their costumes, hand stitch their own Pokemon, and paint pokeballs before the big day.

While at the library they were able to make masks,

take pictures with others in costume,
 meet a dalek and K-9,

 pose for pictures,

and compete in the costume contest. D won 2nd place in the kid's division. She happily got the Pokemon basket!

Mother's day fun

I woke up on Mother's day to hand made cards and little gifts from the kids and a beautiful orchid from Adam. We then got dressed and after a bit of a miscommunication, ended up at a nice little place with no wait for brunch.

After brunch, we headed home for a family movie on the couch. We introduced the kids to National Treasure, and they LOVED it!!! They have already asked to watch the second one now.

After working temporarily for The History Museum,  I have really really wanted to do a tour of the Copshaholm Mansion that was once owned by the Oliver Family. I have always loved history, and actually have a History Degree. I also have loved architecture, and interior design, having once studied those both in Chicago for a time, so this was just perfectly up my alley. Unfortunately the timing while I was working there just didn't sync up with the tour times. So Adam decided that we were going for Mother's day. It was the perfect choice. Even the kids were excited to go. We had been at the Museum on that Friday as well to watch Night at the Museum while at the Museum, so we just couldn't get enough of it that weekend.

At one point D exclaimed that she wanted to have a house like this one. She sure has big dreams.

I only wish I had a kitchen the size of this one. Amazing!!

The museum also has a really neat history of transportation exhibit going on. There was a sign encouraging us to take #spaceselfies. We just needed to do that!

And of course the kids had to leave their mark on the giant board at the end.
We finished the day off with pizza, root beer floats, and fun tv shows!

Fun Family Times at the Museum

Are you in the Michiana area and looking for something fun and unique to do this Friday night for your family? Then head on over to the History Museum to check out a new app they are launching AND watch the first Night at the Museum movie!! I know we can't wait!!!

They do ask that you give them a reservation if you are coming so they can make sure to have enough room for everyone. Thanks!!!

An exciting new opportunity

About a month ago, a friend contacted me with an idea. The Children's program director of the Kidsfirst Museum was pregnant and needing to go on maternity leave, they needed someone to cover. She thought of me. I was super excited but a bit nervous. Could I work during the week outside of the house? Would this be possible? Adam asked one question, Would I enjoy doing it? My answer was of course I would. I would get to do story and craft time 2 days a week, and be in charge of keeping the museum together. I have since been asked to help when school groups come in as well. I am now almost through my first week, and I have to say, I LOVE it! It is exactly what I needed for now, and am happy to fill in for as long as needed.

I did want to share some of the really amazing things we have going on in the museum. Everything is hands-on and interactive.

There is a canoe and wigwam for the kids to experience.

A fishing spot and cooking fire

A horse barn, blacksmith shop, trading post, and 1 room school house for the kids to explore. And for the little ones, a dollhouse and play farm.

One of the coolest things is a Conestoga covered wagon for the kids to climb in!

And last but not least, a log cabin to see how they lived back then.

We have story and craft time every Monday and Friday at 10:45, and here are the ideas we get to do this month!

I am so very excited for this chance to do something so fun and perfectly fit to what I love to do. So, thank you!
