Spring Break 2016

Our spring break this year had horrible weather sadly, so we had to alter our plans. We spent every weekday of break with our best friends.

Monday: Learn how to Geocache! If you haven't given this a shot, I highly suggest you do! While using GPS coordinates you find little hidden treasures. The kids had a blast and we ended up finding 7 around town.

Tuesday: Imagination Station in Toledo Ohio!

Wednesday: Bowling!!!! Our local place was running a special. For $25 6 people got shoes, 2 hours of bowling, a large pizza, and a pitcher of lemonade.

We then made a frozen yogurt stop at the local Sweet Frog!

Then our last stop for the day, the local library! They set up a bunch of life size games to play. We loved playing kerplunk and Candy Land.

Thursday: Curious Kid's Museum in St. Joe Michigan

Friday: The AG days fair! Our local 4h likes to put on a fair where kids can come and meet the animals and farms for free. We have gone every year since L was in kindergarten.

A Festive Fall Wedding

Like I said in the previous post, Adam's friend since middle school got married on the Friday before Halloween and Adam was the best man. It was a really nice wedding. The entire wedding and reception was small and very festive. The colors were all fall leaf colors, the reception felt rustic yet cozy, and it was very "them".

A rare family photo where we are dressed up!
The kids were honored to carry flowers down the aisle.
L with the bride, I believe taken by D.

A shot of D and the bride taken by L.
Very yummy cupcakes done in 3 different flavors.

A rundown on our week

It all started on Friday night. We had a grilled cheese party for my mom's group and one of the little boys started having a really hard time breathing. I kept the younger one while the mom took the other to the ER. It turns out that he had asthma and the beginning of pneumonia. Thank goodness they caught it in time. I was up until 12:30 working on a giant crossword puzzle for the hubby for his birthday. I had all his friends and family send in clues and answers for it. It rocked! I'll have to take a picture of the big one hanging up on the wall. Then at 2:30 am I woke up after hearing a crash. The cat had knocked the fish bowl off the top of the hutch and it shattered. There was water, glass, and rocks everywhere. So Adam and I worked quickly to clean it all up. RIP Dorothy #5 and 6!

Saturday, Adam went with a friend for a 10 mile run. They are training for a half marathon in a few weeks. While they were gone, the kids and I had to run to the store to buy more Easter eggs since the cat destroyed them with fish water. Let me tell you, it's not easy to find cheap eggs the day before Easter! Got home and made everyone yummy lunch. Off to nap time, I was the only one not sleeping. I got the eggs ready, baskets ready, and our bags for the day ready while they all took a nap. Get in the car and head out for our trip. We had a friend having a birthday party, but it turned into a birthday party for 3 of the guys. It was a blast! All the friends were there, with all the kids, and tons of yummy food. I made a rainbow cake that I will blog about later. It turned out super cool!

On the way home at 1am our time, the car dies on the toll road about an hour away from home. Luckily it was not too far from our friends house, and they were just leaving the party we were at. They have a 3rd car and had offered to let us borrow it when we were having trouble in the past. They came and got me, took me to their house, where they gassed up their CRV, we called the tow truck, and I headed out to get Adam and the kids. I was really freaking out the whole time. I was scared, it was cold out, and luckily the kids slept through the entire thing. Our friends helped us out too by paying for the towing. We called and found out that you only have 2 hours before they will impound your car on the toll road. NICE! We were able to tow it to their house too. At that time we didn't know what was wrong with it yet. Adam got the kids, still strapped in the car seats, into the new car without waking them up. We gathered everything that we needed that night, and just then, the tow truck got there. Once we had a plan, everything moved very smoothly. We were off back home! I was exhausted so when we got to the rest stop, Adam took over driving. We got to the corner right by our house and the gas station there is packed. Now this is very strange since it 4 am! There were 50 cars in the gas station and on the roads around it. There were also cops everywhere. Still not sure what happened since it hasn't been in any papers or on any news.

Sunday, the bunny was tired! We hid eggs and had the baskets all ready. The kids loved it. The kicker was that we left our camera at the friends house that had the party, so no pictures! Urgh!!! We got everyone ready and headed off to Adam's parents house. We had a wonderful lunch with all his brothers and his sister. We had an egg hunt there too. The only problem was that the kids didn't get a nap that day, and after being super tired from the crazy night before, they were zonked in the car coming home. That meant that when we got home at 7pm (normal bed time), they were wide awake. So another late night. In the mean time, Adam has come down with an awful cold. But the plus side is that we think it was the timing belt on the car that came off.

Monday, try to figure out what to do with the car. We don't have any money to fix it, no credit cards, and pay day is the 15th. Adam took the day off from work to get better and figure out what to do. We took money out of our bank and started a new account with the bank we have wanted to switch to because we hear that we can get a line of credit. So we wait to hear back. 5:30pm we hear that no we didn't get it. Okay, now what! Our great friends Brian and Emily call and tell us that they can loan us the money, and we can pay it back whenever we can. How awesome is that!

Tuesday, after naps (Adam took the day off again), we head into Valpo to check the car out. We get there and empty it out because who knows how long we aren't going to have it. Call the garage, and set up to have another tow truck come and get it. We wait for them, and follow them to the garage. They will take a look at it and let us know tomorrow. We head over to Brian's house and meet him for dinner so he can give us the money. We stop at my dad's house since we were right there. And another late night.

Wednesday, I head over to my mom's house with the kids, and Adam goes back to work. All is going great except that I haven't heard back from the garage. Now I'm worried. It turns out it was the timing belt, and they changed the water pump all for less then the other garage was going to do it for. Great! Get home and Adam tells me that the landlord tells him that they are coming tomorrow with a real estate agent to take pictures of the house. You see, they are going to sell it! So now I have to clean the house like a mad person! Because I already feel like I can't get anything done for almost a week, now I have to do it in a night! Thanks!

Thursday, thankfully everything is getting better! The car is fixed and we will be picking it up on Saturday. I think they came and took pictures (don't know because they never told me a time and I was gone for 2 hours this morning), and the house is clean!

The moral of the story is that we have amazing friends that will help us out with anything!

Lemon Meringue Pie

The last time I made lemon meringue pie is looked like this:

Ewwwwww! I apparently over beat the meringue and it just looked gross. Tasted yummy, but looked gross. So I'm trying again! I made a promise to myself to try new techniques, and since I didn't feel comfortable with the end result last time I thought I would give it another shot. And the reason I'm making is that since this summer my high school girlfriends and I try to get together once a month. There are 4 of us and we take turns hosting at our houses. So each of us brings something to share. I was bugging Adam trying to come up with what to make. This popped into my head. I use 2 different recipes and combine them. I use this one for the crust and it comes out amazing! You have no idea when you taste it that it isn't a traditional pie crust. And I use a good old Alton Brown recipe for the filling and meringue. It is awesome! Alton can do no wrong in my eyes.

So here are the pictures, you tell me what you think....

The end result! Much, much better! Can't wait to eat it!

My Sweet Valentine's Day

I had a great Valentine's day! Adam got me a tulip plant with 3 bulbs so I can seperate them later and replant. I can have tulips now every valentine's day. And me had the kids sign a card for me. I think it is the first card I have ever "gotten" from the kids, so that was super nice and I will be keeping that! We had plans for dinner that night, but no set plans for the day. It was a decent day for it being Feburary in Indiana, so we decided on a small road trip. We headed out to Valparaiso to see a few old friends that we haven't seen in awhile. First stop, L's oldest friend H. We haven't gotten to see him in a few months (which is forever when you are 2) because mom and dad are going through a divorce and custody trial. Luckily dad had him that day. The kids all had a great time playing with each other and the dads. I got to set back and enjoy all the fun! Then off to Adam's great friend and former boss, Gregg's house. He and his wife, Danielle, were great fun to visit too. The kids had fun begging for food, even though they had been eating all day, and Danielle was happy to oblige! Then it was off to our dinner reservations! White Castle. Now if you aren't familiar with what they do for valentine's day, then let me explain. They close the store to only reservations. They decorate the store with table cloths, candles, flowers, and fun things on the walls. They even have a special menu. This has become a tradition for us for the last 3 years. It started because we had little L, no money, and I wanted it to be a special day, did I mention that I was pregnant with D too! And it was great fun. Now the only problem is that the closest one is and hour and a half away. But it is worth it. I brought coloring books for the kids this year and since they had been eating their way across northern Indiana they only wanted the water they were brought and some fries. So here are pictures from the last 3 years and then some cute ones from this year!

Valentine's Day 2007 (L is 8 months old and I'm 7 months pregnant)

Valentine's Day 2008 (D is 8 months old, and L is 20 months old)

Valentine's Day 2009 (D is 20 months old and L is 2 1/2 years old)

I think this is the best daddy daughter shot we have.

A cute mommy son shot

L eating the only fry he had the whole night

D being silly for daddy

This is the face she makes when we tell her to smile

We did get to visit my dad after dinner too since we were so close. We actually played a joke on him. More on that later!

I love seeing these pictures from the last 3 years because how many times do you take a picture on the same day every year for 3 years. And how many of you have kids the same age in each?

10 things I love

In honor of hitting the 1,000 hit mark on my blog I thought that I would do 10 things that I love.

1. The fact that people actually want to read what I have to say. That is amazing to me!

2. Both my kids. They drive me nuts a lot of times, but I don't know who I would be if it weren't for them.

3. Adam! If it weren't for him I would not be the person I am today. I owe a ton to him, and boy do I love him!!

4. The fact that I have a good roof over my head. If you would have told me that a few years ago, I don't know if I would have believed you.

5. My group of friends that I have made these last few months here in sunny South Bend. You have saved me from myself and seasonal depression.

6. Coffee! After working in coffee for many many years, I can totally appreciate a cup of java. Yum.

7. My family! They have been there for us through it all. And I totally include my wonderful inlaws in this group. They made me feel like part of their family and have helped us with so much. Thank you!

8. crayons. I can't get enough of them. I think I have 13 boxes of all sizes stashed in my utility room closet. Every back to school time, I just need to buy a new box. There is just something soothing about the smell and look of a new box of cayons.

9. Music is the soundtrack of my life. There are songs that I hear, and they take me back to a place, time, or even a person and a feeling. I would truly be lost without music in my life.

10. I would have to also say books. They transport me to new places, new people, new ideas. I learn so much from reading and I hope to instill that in my kids for the future.

So, thanks for reading my blog. I love all of you too!!
