Some great book suggestions!

I have been doing tons of reading lately, and have read some really great funny books. Here are my recommendations:

1. David Sedaris- Me Talk Pretty One Day and When you are engulfed in flames

2. Sloane Crosley- I was told there'd be cake

3. Chelsea Handler- Are you there Vodka? It's me Chelsea!

4. Julie Powell- Julie and Julia

5. Kevin Nealon- Yes you're pregnant , but now what about me?

I highly recommend these, and would love to hear what you think of them!

I did it!!

So many of you might know that I just don't like to exercise, but having 2 babies in 2 years can cause havoc on your already larger than liked body. So I decided late last week that I was going to start to train for a couch to 5K starting today. It starts out slow, but that's what I need since I don't exercise. I have even found a race to do in my set 9 weeks, and funny enough it is in my childhood hometown! I did it!! I went out this morning and jogged/walked for my 30 min. just like I was suppose to. I didn't even need my inhaler. Yes, I looked ridiculous, and yes my fat was jiggling everywhere, but I did it! That right there is a huge accomplishment for me. I am now doing this every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the next 9 weeks. Stay tuned for casual embarrassing updates as I go. And can I just say that I held off on telling Adam for a while because I knew he would be so excited. He has run numerous 5K races, 2 marathons, and a half marathon and is just itching to start running again. As soon as I told him that I decided to do this, his face lit up like I told him we were having a baby all over again. It was very cute! And actually I have to admit that he was the one that found the race for me to run. Now he is gonna see what it is like to wait in the rain/snow/cold with babies and see me run past for a second and go wait by the finish line. Maybe he will actually get to see me cross it, not like me on mulitple occasions!

Fun in the water

I took the kids to a park that had a water pad. Now if you don't know what one of these things are, you need to. They are sooo cool. All you do to get the water going is gently push a button on the top of a pole and here comes the water. They have different sprinklers set up, and hoses, and waterfalls that go off at different times. It is very neat! The kids were a little scared at first, but once they got use to playing in the mud along the side of it, they realized that playing in the water was just as fun. So if you don't have one in your city (we are lucky to have a few, and the best part is that they are free!) then you need to start hounding your town or city council to get one. Every kid needs to have one of these water pads to play in!!

So now what??

We use to have a problem with keeping L in his crib. He discovered that he could climb out of it right around 18 months. So this last May we got him a great big boy bed with Cars bedding. Silly us, for thinking that he would actually want to stay in that! L and D share a room and have since D was only 2 months old, so they are very use to having each other there. Well, this week L has discovered that he now can climb into D's crib and doesn't want to stay in his big boy bed. He has climbed in and woken her up now 4 times. I'm not really sure what to do, but I have gotten some great ideas from some of my mommy friends on Babycenter. It looks like we may have to put a tent up on each of the beds, or just let them sleep in the same crib. Not really sure yet, but I will keep you all posted on the developments as they happen! Just to show you what their room looks like now in the mornings....

Olympics = Political debate?

So when did talking about the Olympics become as heated as a political conversation? I have never been a fan of watching sports, and the Olympics does not escape this feeling. Having had just regular TV for almost my whole life, when they are on, there is VERY little on the tube. So we went to a party the day the opening ceremony was and everyone was of course talking about the up coming events. I casually mentioned that I don't really intend to watch any of the coverage. You would have thought that I claimed I didn't want to claim myself as an American anymore. People were appalled at the fact that I didn't like watching them. I was ignored by some of the people the rest of the time at the party. Luckily the kids were with and I was able to just focus all of my attention on them. When did this happen? And as Adam has so kindly pointed out, this year is the first year that it seems cool to watch them. When did that happen too?? I guess I'm not cool, and anti-American for not watching the Olympics! Oh well, there is a lot worse to worry about!

Johnson & Johnson Introduces 'Nothing But Tears' Shampoo To Toughen Up Newborns

Thanks to the onion for this great article!!

August 15, 2008 | Issue 44•33

Nothing But TearsNEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—After decades of coddling young children, Johnson & Johnson unveiled its new "Nothing But Tears" shampoo this week, an aggressive bath-time product the company says will help to prepare meek and fragile newborns for the real world.

A radical departure for the health goods manufacturer, the new shampoo features an all-alcohol-based formula, has never once been approved by leading dermatologists, and is as gentle on a baby's skin as "having to grow up and fend for your goddamn self."

"We at Johnson & Johnson have been making bath time a safe and soothing experience for far too long," company CEO William C. Weldon said. "Years of pampering have left our newborns helpless, feeble, and ill-equipped for the arduous road ahead."

"It's time our children got the wake-up call that's been coming to them," Weldon continued. "It's time they cried their precious little eyes out."

The result of five years of intensive research and market testing, the company's "Nothing But Tears" shampoo contains only the most abrasive of natural ingredients and is nearly impossible to rinse from a baby's screaming face. According to directions printed on the label, the bath-time product is best used with scalding hot water for optimal toughening-up of newborns.

Available in an easy-to-find-and-open bottle, the new shampoo is also guaranteed to give children a "healthy dose of reality."

"You'll notice a difference after just one use," said Michelle Baker, head of new product development. "Whether it's your newborn's more hardened appearance, the way he now approaches people with guarded skepticism, or just that look on his face that says, 'Oh wait, maybe life isn't all hugs and kisses and rainbows. Maybe I need to get my #### act together.'"

Added Baker, "Johnson & Johnson will kick your baby's #### into gear."

A publicity campaign for the tear-inducing shampoo has already begun, with Johnson & Johnson debuting a series of television ads to push the baby-care product. In one of the minute-long spots, scheduled to air later this week, a mother cradles her crying newborn in her arms. As time p###es, the weeping infant grows increasingly older, until the now elderly woman struggles to hold up her 48-year-old, 230-pound son. A voiceover announcer asks viewers, "Worried your child will never toughen up? At Johnson & Johnson, we can help."

After rigorous product testing at the company's research headquarters in New Jersey, the new "Nothing But Tears" shampoo was found to give newborns up to three times greater resilience than the leading competitor, as well as a stronger grasp on the crushing disappointment that is life. In addition, when combined with Johnson & Johnson's new line of bleach-based conditioners, the shampoo resulted in noticeably thicker skin after only six uses.

In recent years, a growing number of parents have begun looking for ways to raise more adequately jaded toddlers, and Johnson & Johnson is not the first company to respond to the rising demand. In 2003, Fisher-Price unveiled a new adventure play set containing 85 easy-to-choke-on pieces, and in 2006, the Walt Disney Company introduced an interactive DVD entitled Baby's First Brush With A Cruel And Unforgiving World.

Whether or not Johnson & Johnson's new move will ultimately pay off remains to be seen. However, reaction to the tantrum-provoking shampoo has thus far been positive.

"My 13-month-old used to be a total pushover," said new mother Catherine Smith. "But ever since I started washing her hair with 'Nothing But Tears' shampoo, not only does my little Debra kick and scream and wail, but yesterday she said her first words: 'No, Mommy, don't.'"

Despite testimonials from satisfied customers, some concerned parents have come out against the new shampoo.

"To knowingly upset your baby like that is downright cruel," said Hershey, PA homemaker Barbara Sterling. "My child is going to lose his blissful sense of innocence the old-fashioned way—by coming home from school one day only to learn that his parents are getting a divorce."

First Blog

So, hello everyone out there. I'll start out by telling you a little about myself and my family. I am a 28 year old mom to a 2 year old little boy, and a 1 year old little girl. I have been married to a fantastic man for over 4 years, but we have been together now for over 7. I live in Northern Indiana in a modest rental home very near a pool, zoo, park, farmer's market, and the grocery store. All of which I try to walk to. We have one creamy colored cat that has been with us for 6 years now. One great 1998 Honda CRV that just rolled over 200,000 miles the other day. And we have great friends and family scattered all over! Well that just a little to start out with for you. Hope to see you around!
