Snowmen fun!

Today was the perfect still on break, craft in our pjs kind of day, and what better craft then snowmen crafts!

Project 1:
Snowmen from Above

Supplies needed:
white, brown, orange, and whatever color for background and scarf construction paper
glue stick
scissors
pencil
black marker

I had cut the shapes out prior to use starting the craft. For the large white circle, I traced a salad plate. For the middle white circle, I traced a small bowl. And for the other circles I used a circle template back from my design school days. The scarf is actually a full circle slightly smaller than the head circle, with a rectangle sticking out. I had the kids glue down each layer one at a time. When they were all finished, they used the black marker to add coal eyes, buttons, and lines to the carrot. Very cute!

Project 2:
Q-tip painted Snowmen snow globes

Supplies needed:
white, black, brown, orange, and red washable paint
q-tips
paper plate
blue construction paper

I had the blue circle pre-cut prior to the craft, and once again, I used a salad plate to trace. I squeezed a dollop of each paint onto the paper plate (this makes for easy clean up). I also got out tons of q-tips. They used a new one for each color. I set out a sheet of paper towel so we had somewhere to set our dirty q-tips. I explained to the kids that we were dotting the paint on with the q-tips. They both started to smear and wipe the paint, but corrected themselves quickly. L did complain at the beginning that it would take too long. But once he got the hang of it, he had a ton of fun.

Snowmen

First I would like to say hello to all my new Italian friends coming to check out the blog!  I was linked to by Homemademama, she linked to my marble painting, and now I'm getting hits from Italy all over the place!

Yesterday we celebrated snowmen with the moms group.  I was trying to figure out what craft to do, because since we are in a library we have to make sure the crafts are not too messy.  Adam offered to create a  print out page for the kids.  He made one that had 3 different size circles and a hat for the older kids to cut out, glue, and color, and then he did one of all the same images put together for the little ones to color.  We added the cut out to blue construction paper, add some brown coffee stirrers for arms, and some scrap felt pieces cut into scarves and you have a snappy little snowman!

Since this craft was at 4:30 instead of our normal 10:30, I wanted to make sure I gave the kids a snack that didn't mess up their little tummy's before dinner.  After searching the web, I came up with these!  A half of a mini whole wheat bagel, topped with whipped plain cream cheese, raisins for the eyes and mouth, and a half of a baby carrot for the nose.  The kids LOVED that they were snowmen and ate them up quickly.

The books were a hit also.  The books we read were:
Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright
Snow Party by Harriet Ziefert

Snowmen bagels
The kids kind of did their own thing with the snowmen.  D's is on top, then L's, and then mine.  I'm still not sure which way is up on D's.  The plus is that both kids cut out all the pieces by them selves!

Snowmen

The snow has finally been the perfect snow to build snowmen!!!! We have had tons of snow, but nothing good enough to make snowmen out of. And of course every time it snows, the kids ask if we can make them. So we headed out and went crazy with building! After we made the first snowman, L insisted that he needed to make snow ball soup. It was super cute. Then they made a second one but got tired after just one of the snow balls. Oh well, that meant Adam and I had to finish it. Darn! So after 2 snowmen, a snowball fight, and shoveling snow, we headed in for big mugs of hot chocolate. What a great weekend!
