Last day of 2nd and 3rd grade

The last week of school this year was a bit different. Adam was away on a work trip the whole week in Rome, so I had to do it all by myself. Luckily for us, maybe not for him, the time changed allowed us to Facetime with him every night at dinner time for us (midnight for him).

L had his awards on a Friday this year. As always each student was called up by their teacher and given an award. This year's theme was unforgettable. L was unforgettable because of" his insatiable curiosity and being the resident expert on all things Harry Potter or Cub Scouts." After all the awards were handed out, the kids sang a song about good bye friends we will see each other again. For me tears were flowing because my kids are transferring to a different school next year but they will join this group of kids in middle school a few years from now.

D's awards were on the following Monday morning. Just like brother, all the kids were called up and given awards. D was given the Life Skill of problem solving and perfect attendance. After it was all done, the kids sang "This little light of mine", and again a few tears were shed by me.

The final day of school had come, and these two were ready for Fun in the Sun which is like a giant field day!

My friend took this one of D during her class' dance and song they performed.

As I have done each year on the last day, I put together a kick off to summer bucket that they find in their seat at the end of the day. These were packed with new books, bubbles, silly string, coloring books, little activities, new sand shovels and more.

I also had balloons hanging out the windows and blasting Kids Bop music. There were kids dancing in front of my car again.

And as always, the silly string came out as soon as we were home.

Last days of School 2014

Wow, it has been months since I last blogged. Where has the time gone! So the first week of June brought the last few days of school this year. D has finished 1st grade and L has finished 2nd grade. I am still in shock that I have an incoming 3rd grader! 3rd grade didn't seem that long ago to me. Yikes!

Each grade has their own special award ceremony. Each student is giving at least 1 life skill award. These are always fun to find out, sometimes you agree and sometimes you just don't see it. Each time I can totally agree with my kids awards.
D's teacher was sad to not be there for the awards this year, but it was her only chance to chaperon her own son's field trip. We all totally understood.  Funny enough, there was a freak power outage the day of D's awards and the school was running on generators. By mid-day, those were no longer running anymore either.
My little girl looks so grown up!

Looking like a pro walking off the stage.

Normally Adam takes time off from work to come to these, but unfortunately it just didn't work out this year.

My handsome boy!
L's teacher actually got a little choked up talking about his initiative this year and how far he has come in his writing. In fact, he got a nice little belated birthday gift in the mail from her just the other days. It was a really neat tree journal so that he can write about our travels this summer.

This girl was excited about the last day of school even though she LOVES it!

Once again this year I had decked the car out for after school pick up. I used a window marker to decorate the windows, picked up balloons from Dollar Tree, had Kids Bop music blasting, and had bags in their seats filled with candy, silly string, bubbles, books, and water blasters. Kids came streaming out of the school, stopped at my car, and just started dancing. It was hilarious!!!!

We capped off the evening going to the downtown library summer reading challenge kick off party where we signed up, made paper hats, bought tons of cheap used books, and I won free passes to a nearby water park!

Last Day of School Fun!

On the very last day of school, we have what we call Fun In The Sun. Basically it is a field day for the entire school, and this year I was able to lead a relay race for the morning half of the day. I was then able to have lunch with both kids on the hill with all their friends.

After lunch I headed out to run some errands. I had picked up fun things from Dollar Tree to fill up a sand bucket. I put in a bug house, bubbles, silly string, book log, small can of root beer, goldfish crackers, and Twizzler bites. I also picked up a window marker and wrote on the back side windows, "Welcome to Summer." And last but not least, I picked up 2 helium balloons that I tied to the inside door handle of each kids door. When I arrived at school for pick up, I opened the windows and let the balloons fly out. When I drove up to the sidewalk where all the kids and teachers were waiting, I was met with loud hoots, hollers, and cheers. The kid's mouths dropped open. You could tell they were wondering what the heck mom was up to!

Both were very excited to break into their summer fun buckets right away!

And of course the silly string was used as soon as we made it home.

Here is to a fun filled summer! Hope you all have a great time with everything you do this year!!!

Last days of school 2013

Wow, it has been awhile since I posted here. Sorry for the gap in time. The last month of school is always a very busy one. We finished up L's first grade and D's kindergarten year at the beginning of June. Their school does an awards ceremony for each grade level over 2 days. This year, we were lucky that both of ours fell on the same day. We started out the morning at L's. He was given a Life Skill award of problem solving. It was a great time! They also put together a very nice slide show for the entire first grade, and I have to say that I was honored to be included with the Art Smart work I have done with them over the last year.

L and his wonderful teacher! She has really made a difference in him over this past year!

The afternoon we were able to head to D's awards. They also had a nice slideshow for the entire kindergarten class, but they also sang 3 songs. It was very sweet, and many tears were shed through out the entire day. Not just by the parents, but the kids and teachers as well.

D and her fantastic teacher. We will be sad to leave such a fun and wonderful classroom.
